On a scholarship at the Reali Hebrew High School in Haifa, Israel

1953-1955

Service in the Israeli Army. Besides cleaning my rifle, I wrote skits and satire for Army performing groups.

1955-1958

On a scholarship at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. How else can a poor kid get an education? Major in English Literature; Minor in International Relations.

1959-1963

Licensed Israeli Tourist Guide. I worked in the following languages: Hebrew, English, Russian, Polish, Yiddish and French.

1964

Scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania, Annenberg School of Communications for a Masters degree. I was the only girl in a class of men in grey flannel suits. They mocked my thick accent, and hated me because my essays were better than theirs.

1965

Transferred to UCLA for a Masters in Journalism

1964-1965 and late

Articles on the opinion page of the Los Angeles Times

1966

Married Irving Patron and moved to his hometown Hartford, Connecticut. Two kids followed.

1968-2003

Opinion columnist for the Hartford Courant and the Connecticut edition of The New York Times.

1978-1982

Finally, my Masters in Communications at the University of Hartford. No scholarship needed!
